Beer & Authors? OK I’m In!

How does going to your local brew pub, grabbing some noshes and listening to an author discuss their latest books & writing process sound? Awesome? Yeah, that what I said. Outstanding way to help promote indie authors!

I recently visited family & friends in Madison, Wisconsin & attended a monthly Books & Beer event. The featured author was R. R. Campbell (Twitter: @iamrrcampbell). I had been introduced to him by my sister-in-law who connected us on-line. We exchanged a few emails & Ryan graciously answered some question about setting up & managing a WordPress blog. I was excited to meet him in person & talk writing. Add another local author, Valerie Biel (Twitter: @valerieBiel) into the mix to MC & you have a near perfect evening. Valerie did an excellent job asking questions about Ryan’s writing process & journey followed by audience questions.  I’ll admit I was in nerd heaven.

I’m not sure who tried this first, but it’s a brilliant idea…a chance to try out a local brew pub (buying a drink was not required) & listen to authors talk about their work. I’m seriously thinking about starting a similar event where I live. We currently have some open mic events, but nothing along the lines of sitting down & relaxing to an in-depth interview with one author that includes plenty of time for questions.

If you’re interested in either of their works, Ryan can be found at https://rrcampbellwrites.com . He is author of Imminent Dawn, Empathy & Mourning Dove (science fiction), hosts a podcast (The Writecast Network: writescast.net/podcasts/writescast/) & is a writing coach. An all-around talented (& great) guy.

Valerie writes fantasy as well as YA & has written the Circle of Nine Series (Beltany, Novella Collection & Sacred Treasures). When she’s not writing (or hosting Books & Beer events) you can find her working on freelance publicity projects & assisting other authors with their business.
