I volunteer once a week with my local Friends of the Library organization. I sort donations, look for rare and/or collectible items and research their value (which I then list on eBay). We sell most of the donations in our used bookstore which is located right inside the library and also at twice-a-year book sales. My desk is in the backroom which means (drum roll please), I’m surrounded by thousands of books.

I’ve adopted the cookbook section, because I love to cook and read them like a fine novel. I have a hard time not taking half of them home. The picture to the left is of just the cookbook section, so you can see how much trouble I’m in. It’s no surprise to me that it is one of our most popular sections. I’m astounded by the beautiful (many never used) cookbooks that get donated.
We have two other isles full of book donations (all genres) just waiting to be moved into our tiny bookstore. For those of you who like to bake, please be sure to download your free copy of my Grandma’s Favorite Christmas Cookies Cookbook. All of the recipes are from my childhood and several are year-round favorites

No one who cooks, cooks alone. Even at her most solitary, a cook in the kitchen is surrounded by generations of cooks past, the advice, the advice and menus of cooks present, the wisdom of cookbook writers.
